ACCESSanitation

Part financed by the European Commission and running from December 2009 to November 2012, the project ACCESSanitation is working directly with cities in India and the Philippines to tackle inadequate urban sanitation.
With an emphasis on the link between sanitation and urban water management more broadly, five cities in India and five in the Philippines are developing action plans to identify more sustainable sanitation solutions. The development of the plans is supported by the six project partners through peer-to-peer exchange and the continuous provision of tailor-made training and coaching for the participating cities. By the end of the project it is anticipated that each city will have implemented at least one selected pilot activity.
In addition to the work within the participating cities, ACCESSanitation is also promoting sustainable urban sanitation on a larger scale through the transfer of good practice elsewhere in the target countries as well as from and to cities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
ACCESSanitation is coordinated by the ICLEI European Secretariat located in Freiburg, Germany.
